1. Preview Pane Mode

You can change the view of your emails to match the look of outlook, This means on one side you can have a list of your emails and then the other side the actual email message.

Instructions:

  1. Login to your Gmail account https://accounts.google.com/signin
  2. Open up your settings by clicking on the cog icon in the top right hand corner
  3. Click on Advanced and enable Preview Pane
  4. Press Save Changes
  5. You can toggle the Preview Pane on and off with this button

2. Conversation View

One function I know a lot of people dislike about Gmail is the way that emails are grouped together in one email thread with the first email sent at the top and all subsequent emails underneath. You can change this so that all messages are shown as separate emails.

Instructions:

  1. Login to your Gmail https://accounts.google.com/signin
  2. Open up your settings by clicking on the cog icon in the top right hand corner
  3. Within the General tab scroll down to Conversation View
  4. Select Conversation view off
  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and press Save Changes

Summary

With these two changes you now have email responses separated and the preview pane activated. Gmail is now setup to feel like outlook but has the perks of being browser based.

This means you can log in from wherever you are in the world.
